Mission

Real World Caregiving gives voice to the often invisible world of family caregivers.

Our Story

When Sarva Rajendra’s mother suddenly fell ill, she became a caregiver for her elderly parents. Despite her background in healthcare, she’d never fully appreciated the vital work performed by family caregivers on a daily basis. Assisting her parents revealed the challenges and complexities of family caregiving.

Sarva founded Real World Caregiving to share the stories of love, sacrifice, resilience and grace that embody family caregiving. In creating community around these stories, we hope to dispel the feelings of isolation that often accompany this experience. Approximately 1 in 5 Americans will be a caregiver during their lifetime. By bringing visibility to the diverse manifestations of caregiving, we acknowledge its indispensable role in society and raise awareness of the profound impact it has on individuals and communities. Through these narratives, we hope to discover ways to enhance the caregiving experience for all involved.

- First Lady Rosalyn Carter

“There are only four kinds of people in the world — those that have been caregivers, those that are caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.”
